2. Clingmans DomeBreathtaking mountain views from Clingmans Dome.

When you visit this famous observation tower, you will enjoy unparalleled vistas of the Great Smoky Mountains. On a clear day, the views can extend for over 100 miles.

To reach the observation tower, visitors must complete a half-mile hike up a paved walkway that is quite steep. Be sure to dress warmly if you stop by Clingmans Dome (even in the summer) because the observation tower is often 10 – 20 degrees colder than the lower elevations of the mountains.
