Hidden Gems in the Smoky Mountains

The House of the Fairies– this eerie but unique stone building was originally a springhouse and is located off of the Twin Creeks Trail, an easy 4.5 mile roundtrip hike. It’s one of the few remaining structures of the Vorrheis Estate

Rainbow Cave Falls– Not to be confused with Rainbow Falls trail, this hidden gem in the Smoky Mountains is located in the White Oak Sinks area of the park along the Schoolhouse Gap Trail. In addition to a 40-foot waterfall, this secret spot features not one but two caves– Rainbow Cave and Blowhole Cave!

Gregory’s Cave– There’s more to Cades Cove than just driving the loop road! You can park at the John Oliver cabin and follow the dirt trail a little way until you reach the cave entrance. It’s one of the largest caves in the Smokies!

The Pearl Harbor Tree– A memorial made by one of the original families who lived in the national park during the 1940s. This sweet gum tree is located about a half mile from Missionary Baptist Church in Cades Cove.

The Tunnel Under Kuhowi– Yes, there really is a tunnel under the iconic Clingmans Dome (now renamed to the Cherokee name Kuhowi)! It is referred to by several names, including the Thomas Divide Tunnel, Thomas Ridge Tunnel, or the Old Mule Tunnel, and was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s.

Wears Cove– We bet you didn’t know about this secret entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park! You can take Wears Valley Road which then connects with Little River Gorge Road to cross into the park. This route bypasses Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge traffic and provides easy access to many popular areas including the Elkmont Ghost Town.

Hidden Gems in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge & Sevierville

Harrisburg Covered Bridge and English Mountain Trout Farm are two hidden gems in Sevierville you should definitely check out. Hidden gems in Pigeon Forge include Outdoor Gravity Park where you can go zorbing all year round and Goats on the Roof where you can feed goats, play mini golf, ride a mountain coaster, and more! Some of the top hidden gems in Gatlinburg are places to eat off the beaten path– The Greenbrier, The Fox and Parrot Tavern, and Wild Plum Tea Room just to name a few!
