If you have been researching your vacation to the Smoky Mountains, you’ve likely discovered that the Gatlinburg SkyPark is one of the “must see” attractions in the Smokies! You may have also learned that this popular attraction is not only home to an iconic chairlift ride from downtown Gatlinburg, but also the longest pedestrian cable bridge in North America and a scenic walking trail with amazing mountain views! However, here are 3 surprising facts about visiting the Gatlinburg SkyPark that you might not know:
1. Tickets Purchased After 8 PM are Valid the Next Day
The cool thing about the amusement park is that it is open both during the day AND at night, so you can get two totally different perspectives from the top of the mountain! Since your ticket includes all day access to the park, you can ride the chairlift up and down the mountain as much as you want for a full day. Explore the park during the afternoon to experience the stunning Smoky Mountain views, then come back at night to see the lights of downtown Gatlinburg sparkling below! If you’re hoping to experience both on different days, you’re in luck. Guests who purchase the SkyPass online or the Unlimited Visits Tickets onsite after 8pm can access the SkyPark from open until close the following day!
2. Dogs Are Permitted on the Gatlinburg SkyLift
Another surprising fact about visiting the SkyPark is that dogs are permitted on the Gatlinburg SkyLift and throughout the park! This is especially exciting news for those folks who are staying at our pet friendly cabin rentals in the Smokies! It’s not everyday that you can take your pooch on a chairlift ride, so take advantage of this unique opportunity with your four-legged friend! Keep in mind that dogs must be leashed at all times and held securely on the chairlift ride up the mountain. Also, the park asks that pet owners clean up after their pet, prevent excessive barking and respect the space of other guests.
3. Fun Special Events Take Place Throughout the Year
There are a number of fun special events at Gatlinburg SkyPark throughout the year that can make your visit even more enjoyable! If you are planning a vacation during the warmer months, you might get to catch some live music while kicking back at the SkyCenter with a refreshing drink! You can never go wrong with an autumn visit either, when you’ll have panoramic views of gorgeous fall foliage and fall decor throughout the attraction. The holiday season is also a spectacular time to visit as the SkyBridge is decked out with a magnificent display of Christmas lights and other festive decorations! Whether you come in the winter, spring, summer or fall, there is almost always something happening on the mountain!
